Tutor.com provides access to online tutors for math, science, writing/composition and social studies for grades 4–12. The tutors are certified teachers, professors or graduate students who must attend a training program and pass a background check. Students can buy a day pass for $14.99, a weekly pass for $24.99 or a monthly pass for $69.99. Otherwise, they can try out Tutor.com with a free one day pass.
Tutor.com doesn’t provide other online resources for students to explore on their own.
To use Tutor.com, you will need high–speed internet access and Windows XP and you must download their free whiteboard and chat software. Access to a tutor is available from 2p.m.–1a.m. Eastern Time and each session averages 25 minutes.
To begin a tutoring session, select a subject and grade level and an appropriate tutor is contacted. The whiteboard software has writing and drawing tools so students don’t have to waste time searching for the appropriate math or chemistry symbols on their keyboard.
